The Krewe of Alegria is a group of women who love fashion,
give back to the community, and are rock the Gasparilla Parade. Alegria has been dazzling the spectators in
the Gasparilla parade since 1986 when Dianne Henry and Dyann “Rocky” Valdez
decided to that the boys should not be the only ones having fun. From that day, the Krewe of Alegria was
founded, making them the first all women’s Krewe in Gasparilla.
Alegria means joy in Spanish, and these women are on a
mission to enjoy life, and inspire others to do the same. These fashionistas take pirate-attire to a
new level. Their jewel toned-costumes are
all about the bling, and each lady embellishes them with sequins and
crystals. The sleeves are white and
puffy reminiscent of pirate attire.
Finished with black boots and black leggings, these ladies light up the
parade route.
Alegria is not just about bling and bootie, when they are
not parading down Bayshore Blvd, they give back to the community. Algeria has their very own charity which is
named Kicken’ for Kids. Kicken’ for Kids
raises money throughout the year to provide new shoes for deserving children in
the Tampa Bay area. These women know
that with the right pair of shoes, you can conquer the world!
These ladies are fashionistas with a cause!
